There are those who ,while in school dream to get into the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). And then there are those who aspire to be an MBA and get into the Indian Institute of Management (IIM). But how does it feel if your resume has both the institutes associated to your name?

Ask Mr. Jayantha Bhakta, CEO/Managing Director of Uniworth Australia Pty Ltd. This ex-picketian did his engineering from IIT Kharagpur and went on to do an MBA at the IIM Ahmedbad.

"Wow !" We can hear you say that.

Jay, as he is affectionately called the world over, completed his 11th standard in 1973 (there was no 12th std in schooling then) from Old Block and then went to IIT, Kharagpur. A few years later he joined IIM, Ahmedabad. He started his career with ET&T, a public sector company. 3 years later he joined the SONY-ORSON group and set up an associate company (New Video Ltd ) as a founding Director. But this wasn’t enough for him. He was hungry for more.. and decided to start something of his own. So, he left the group to set up his own business with financial backing from a Financier. At peak, he employed 65 people in his organization with his factory at Nalagarh and HO at Delhi. The business grew and he set up branches at Bombay, Secunderabad and Kolkata. He handed over this company to his employee Managers and migrated to Australia in 1996.

He joined a small Australian business that was near liquidation and was a sick business. Under his leadership, the company revived and is back on track. It is doing extremely well now. He is now the Director and Chairman of the company.
Mr Bhakta is also the CEO/Managing Director of Uniworth Australia Pty Ltd that deals with Industrial Products (Worsted Wool and PolywoolYarn & Fabric). He also trades on financial market.

Whenever he gets time, he spends time playing tennis with his children.Married to Sampa, his family includes Jaideep (17yrs) and Diya (14yrs).He loves spending time with his children. His daughter Diya recently won the title of Dubbo Outback Icon'05 in a prestigious singing competition that lasted 14 weeks of knockout competition. He also loves walking around the town lake, travelling, gardening and reading 'Readers Digest' and 'Time'.In the future, once both his kids have gone to University, Jay would like to move to a Melbourne and expand his import business.

Mr Bhakta is extremely happy to know about the Picket Alumni Association. He is not sure if he can make it for the Picket Meet this yeas as he visited India in Jan 2005 for a Silver Jubilee Reunion at his other Alma Mater: IIM, Ahmedabad.
But when he was in India in 05,he took some time off his busy schedule to stop over at Secunderabad and visit Picket .He could only inspect the buildings as school was on holidays. He looks forward to more communication and updates about the Picket Alumni association.

Hi Jayanth

My name is Nandakumar (1972 AIHSE 11 batch). You and your brother Jaladhi were my class mates. I used to live in Venkatapuranm Colony Sec'bad close to your house in Bhoiguda. I also used to borrow books from your little library. After completing my Phd in Economics, i taught for about 10 years in Inadian Institute of Management and Commerce (B. Com Hons) affiliated to Osmania University. I migrated to Sydney, Australia in 1994 and i am currently working for NSW Transport & Infrastructure as a Policy Officer.

I note you live in Dubbo. it will be good to catch up with you mate.

KVP alumni - thanks for providing the opportunity and link with old mates. AC Rajeev (1972 batch) should remember me. Venky (V. Venkat raman is in the USA), KS Ramesh is in Hyd.

I am really delighted to catch up with KVP progress. Will drop in when i come to Hyderabad in my next visit. Enjoyed reading KK's write up.

I also vividly remember the one act plays of that time- "wahan goli chal rahi thi aur yahaan pe padai chal rahi thi" 1969 telangana agitation - KVP was functioning!!!!
