Meet a Picketian -1969 batch

Interview with Mr Bhaskar,IAS
Commissioner of Commerical Taxes, Govt of AP

For how many years were you in Picket?

I was there in Picket for 2 years. I completed my 12th in 1969.I was in the MPC batch.

Do you remember how the school looked then?

I studied in the school that you all know by the name "Old Block”. A few new class rooms were being constructed then and we had the opportunity to study there. That was a new building for us.:)

How many students were there in your class?

Hmm...If I remember right, there were around 10 students...and only 1 girl.:)

Are you in touch with any of your classmates.?

Mr Malkondiah was my classmate who worked for the Indian Airlines in Hyderabad. I used to meet him quite often at the airport.

Anybody else?

I am also in touch with Mr RA Krishna with whom I used to play cricket. Gafur, another classmate of mine works for the Indian Foregin Services. My brother Shankar is also a Picketian. He is a doctor in Delhi and was in the BPC section.

Do you remember the teachers who taught you at school?

Oh yes..
Ashwath Narayan for Maths,
Premalatha Reddy for Chemistry
AL Narasimha Rao for English

What did you do after your XIIth?

After completing my 12th standard, I joined the St Stephens College, Delhi and I majored in Physics there. .In 1974, I started working for the State Bank of India. In 1981, I decided to take the UPSC and joined the Indian Administrative Services (IAS)

Have you been in touch with Picket?

My brother's daughter ( Uma ) completed her 12th in Picket (2001). She keeps me updated about the progress of the school. In fact, she was the one who told me about the Picket Alumni Meet. She is very excited about the December reunion. I am also looking forwarding to it.

Can you tell us something about your family?

My wife and I have been blessed with 2 sons. My elder son is completing his B.Tech from IIT Kharagpur this year and is planning to take the GRE. The younger one is currently doing his B.Tech at CBIT, Hyderabad.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

I love trekking. I have trekked to the Himalayas. Have been to Kailash Mansarovar and have also trekked to the 18,000 ft Bose Peak.I also cycle and read books. I enjoy playing bridge.

Will you be there for the Picket reunion?

Oh yes..I'll be there for sure!

Anything else?

If there is anything that I can do for the Alum Meet, please do let me know. Please don’t hesitate.
You guys are doing a great job.

Hi Bhasker,

If I recall, your last name is Venkatramani - you and your brother Shanker were luminaries even at school! I wonder if you remember me - Kumar Krishnamoorthy - I was a year junior to you. I am in touch with R A Krishna too. I have a photo of my Class of 1970 on the Blog...in the May 2005 archive...perhaps you may remember some faces from there...

Shall look forward to meeting you at the Reunion!
